Notional grant amounts

Notional grant amounts for the Research Support Fund (including the Incremental Project Grants and research security) are calculated annually based on the funding (or credits) that institutions received from the three federal granting agencies—the Canadian Institutes for Health Research, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council—during the three previous fiscal years, and according to the coming fiscal year’s Research Support Fund budget.

Institutions that have been notified of their eligibility by the Tri-agency Institutional Programs Secretariat (TIPS) must apply to the program by the application deadline in order to receive their grant. Failure to submit all application forms and to fulfill the accountability and public acknowledgement requirements (as applicable) by the deadline will result in the forfeiture of grant funds for that fiscal year.

Note: Notional grant amounts are preliminary. Inaccuracies in the data on the basis of the calculation of credits for Research Support Fund grants are sometimes identified after the grant amounts have been announced. These inaccuracies typically involve only a small number of institutions, representing less than ± 2% of any institution’s grant. The grant amounts will be confirmed in October of the award’s fiscal year, after any required adjustments have been made to the credit base of individual institutions.
